“Sobriety” (a poem by Stuart Vance & KPKeelan)

.

There are areas of delightful meaning
derived haphazardly…
living in our juices
between our breath of fire
and our sigh of rock
and frozen in the moment
by unspoken understanding.

So here we stand in the light of comprehension
delectably turning the world
over our tongues
like rare champagne
feeling its effervescence
disappear like the instant
leaving that sweet, but dry sensation
on our thirsty palates
that we have grown accustomed to.

The taste is meaning enough for us,
because it changes
and so do we.

That taste is us.
