“The Price of Knowledge” (a poem by KPKeelan)

Oh to be a blissfully dumb beast

and not this woefully dumb man!

Cursed are my ancestors

for eating of that Tree of Knowledge!

What were they thinking!

(Why were they thinking?)

Where would I be today

without that fateful bite?

Would I be a part of nature

an integral thread

in the tapestry of living things

or separate and aliened

as I am now-

something Other,

not of nature?

How can we ever undo this rift

between ourselves

and ourselves,

that keeps us ever

orphaned from our souls?
