“An Unavoidable Collision” (a poem by KPKeelan)

Truth hurts.

It’s a good kind of pain

but it’s pain nonetheless.

Life is so big! So bright!

We must shield our eyes

or risk being blinded by the white hot light.

It’s scary to think about

and impossible not to.

Terrifying to name aloud

we use metaphor, simile, cliché

to speak the unspeakable.

Reality is a relentless army

that marches on- as sure as Time

stopping for nothing- for no one.

If we stand in the way

we are stomped into the dust

like crushed flowers after a wedding.

I see those faceless battalions

headed my way

but my knees are frozen

my shoes are lead.

Here comes the onslaught

inescapable as the dawn,

unstoppable as the tide-

heading straight towards me!

But I am going nowhere.

am toast!
