“Forgetfulness” (a poem by KPKeelan)

*

I suspect-

there is a place between lives

I go to in forgetfulness

to start over

and get ready for the thrill,

the torment,

and the breathless ecstasy

of BEING ALIVE.

Being alive

is everything.

Spirits yearn, ache, mourn-

weep diamond tears

to see life misuse life so,

to have to witness

(again and again!)

the consequences of that forgetfulness-

fruits of an ignorance so breathtaking

we forget the gift of breath,

ignore the blessing of love offered,

deny the primacy of nature.

We are not

who we think we are.

We are much, much more.
