Poems of a Young Man: “On a Canvas” (words caught at random from a documentary on the abstract paintings of Sam Francis)

1954

Paris…

chalky white

liquid blue

exploding paintings!

e x p a n d i n g

water lily

vastness

sensation of color

black

red

gold!

strength

wriggling

across the canvas

in pigments of

goldorangeblack

almost biological

clusters

zoom up and out

dynamic

heroic!

stunning the eyeball

in constant motion…

on a canvas.
