Poems of a Young Man: “Breakthroughs”


False breakthroughs

break through

and then expose themselves

as progress posers, leaving-


I see them:

A million different fingers crooked

all beckoning me

in different directions.

A million trigger-fingers

poised above the buttons.

A million different voices

calling to me

in a cacophony of commands…

If I choose to go with them

will they betray me

and reveal themselves

as false prophets?

Maybe I’m better off, sitting here-
