“A Common Ailment” (a poem by KPKeelan)

*

Yesterday, I saw a woman

crying alone

in a sea of passersby.

I was passing by

but paused.

I wanted to comfort her,

but didn’t want to intrude on her grief,

didn’t know what to say…

So I passed on by,

eyes downcast.

Later that day

I saw an earthbound honeybee

crawling across a busy street,

struggling between the passing tires,

in clear distress.

The connection between the two seemed obvious.

It seemed likely

both were suffering from the same malady:

. . .

Hive Collapse Disorder.
