“Call a Thing What It Is” (a poem by KPKeelan)

*

We are all war criminals,

complicit to varying degrees.

Some war criminals carry guns.

Other war criminals give orders

to commit the gravest sins.

Some war criminals kill with ignorance,

denial of responsibility,

apathy.

Some kill with politics-

war criminals of the tongue.

Some war criminals hate war criminals,

say they hate war.

Support war

by doing business.

Buy the wrong products,

choose to ignore the wrong details.

We war criminals of expediency

don’t want to know

about the secret alliances

between our shadow selves

and the war criminals who profit

on the wars we oppose-

or think we do.

Woe is the man who pulls the trigger.

Woe is the man who gives the order.

Woe is the witness who turns away.

Call us what we are:

war criminals, all.

This is one of your best out of so many poems that are superb. I would like to send this in a letter to the Editor under your name (of course), but as a straight essay. They have published some of my ,but as essays

You have to write fast here. I meant to say some of my poems were published, not as I sent it, but as essays.
