GUESTBOOK 159 (2015): “Spar Through the Cosmic Hail” (by Yaryan)

(Inspired by poet comrade Kevin Keelan)

My muse speaks

now, lately

and I’ve ignored the drift,

circling, avoiding her

in the void,

perpetuating my demise, defiance, distance

from a planet that views poets as tourists

with ancient translations, from lost languages,

muddled in the dying social grace

of this drab space we inhabit

where logic cannot outrun the bruising bullies of enter tame ment,

it’s lament I tell ya, lame, sad cement shoes,

no way to run, just shut my ears and close the mind shop down,

muse me not, figment of my imagination

in a discouraging den of hypnotic amusements

and simplified distractions — hard-time heartwounds

hell heaps, harsh hikes to havens

heavens sakes, the hands need the gloves

to spar through the cosmic hail, heavy

and harmonic, if you can handle it…

sometimes the muse needs to hoodwink us,

trick us into believing in the listeners

What an honor to have inspired such an inspiring man.
