Poems of a Young Man: “Kamikaze Transportation” (© KPKeelan)

.

Tickets!

Freeway!

Parking!

Airports!

Security!

Get in line

to get in lineto take your turn.

Herded, like so many paying cattle,

we shuffle up the rampand cram our bodies into

the seat-o’-torture.

Taxi for position.

Fasten your seat belts for

takeoff!

It’s stale airand crying tots.

It’s too hot-

It’s too cold-

too dry-

too noisy.

Leg cramps!

A tiny packet of peanuts.

Too much perfume!

Hold your breath ’til the tarmac

comes speeding underneath and

Landing!

The wheels touch down

on precious ground once again.

You made it!

You survived

TRANSPORTATION.

And should you disembark

living still,

you still face your day of dying.

Now, that’s real transportation!
