GUESTBOOK 158 (2015): “There I Was on the Equator Drinking Iced Tea With the Natives, When All of a Sudden…” (by Shannon Vance & Kevin Keelan)

Notably indifferent,

I am waiting still for absolution

and revolving, as if somebody’s Frankenstein

frozen in vitro

stewed, picked, preserved

and floating in a greasy formaldehyde solution.

And in retaliation

there came flashing lightning on weathered panes-

the fruit of tropical firestorms

advancing in shuddering waves

devouring vinelike creeper,

leaving to Time

only broken shells encased in the shore

who alone knew of the violence

you have triggered in me.

It was almost like

murdering God’s own good creatures

for sport and frolic

and putting their corpses in labeled jars

the latest in a parade of unforgivable acts.

Take now the earth

as my own-

the ground around and shed it like dead skin cells

hurling this soiled sphere

to the unreal edge of the universe

beyond awakening.
