GUESTBOOK 122 (2015): “Mano a Mano” (by Stuart Vance)

Stu caracature.

Everyday kind of walking

Just trying to get somewhere

Heel toe heel toe

Hard New York street

When a big

Guy comes pumping up

Eyes in my eyes

For a long, long second

And I think

Fight or flee?

Always the question

Does he think I’m gay?

Or easy prey?

Does he smell my fear?

Yes he smells my fear

My self-doubt, my weak knees, my kindness

He senses that I’m not

A successful artist

And my girlfriend just left me

He knows he can

PunchStabShoot me

With no trouble no qualm

But he passes on and I

Un-clinch a little

Just a little

Anyway it’s not always about a

Real threat

It’s just men being men
