Poems of a Young Man: “Stirring Things Up”

.

It would be nice to sustain a passion-

any passion!

But

it’s not the nature of such things

to stick around,

and risk the vulgarity of familiarity.

They just ARE

and then

they are gone-

leaving me puzzled

and clutching at nothing,

in the choppy wake of my own waves.

Try as I do, I cannot

skim above the water

leaving my wings dry,

and the waters surface

 untroubled.

No

I must slog through it

splashing inelegantly about

in an unsightly commotion-

forever

stirring things up.
