Poems of a Young Man: “My Gift” (for Sandy)

.

Thoughts of you

coming through clear

above the garbled background static

reverberating from wall to wall

inside my skull

in an endless

echo chamber.

Still

trying my skill

to say what I will-

and I will

say what I can

to witness

for you.

Abstract semi-ideas

stillborn

or half-formed

underdeveloped

limping along to be done

to be won

to be one gift

for you.

It will have to do.
