Poems of a Young Man: “Syncopation” (© KPKeelan)

sticking its thumb in my eye!

stepping on my feet.

Ripe apples bruised

(the taste is not so sweet.)

*   *   *

At this stretch of highway

I’m cruising right up the center,

but I always arrive at my junctions

just too soon/or just too late-

and the torture of it all,

is that I know it

while it’s happening!

*   *   *

You are moody.

I am joyful.

You feel high.

I’m depressed.

Once, so in sync, now

never quite in the same space at the same time.

I hope, like everything,

this too will pass

and leave us behind:

hand-in-hand and

joined as one.
