Poems of a Young Man: “Good-bye Old Friend” (© KPKeelan)

“My god!  It’s you again, is it?”

“Small world indeed!”

(And never a warmer hug was exchanged.)

“Geez, it’s been, like… years?!”

“Yeah, people can change a lot in a year.”

“Sure brings back memories…”

“You look the same… but different.”

“Yeah, well what can you expect?”

“Last time I saw you, you were getting married.”

“Divorced.  Didn’t work out…”

(No ring on the finger.)

“You can’t still be in school?  Are you working?”

“Traveling I guess.”

“To where?  From where?”

“Nowhere really.  Just kind of passing through everywhere.  And you?”

“Me?  The same.  Kids in high school now.  Hard to believe!”

“We all seem to get older, but nothing changes…”

“Look, it’s been great.  Good to see you.  Really…”

“But I’ve got responsibilities, you know?”

“Things I just gotta do.  It ain’t up to me.”

“Hope to see you again someday…”
