“Velvet Dynamite” (a poem by KPKeelan)

I want to write again.

I want to take the images

coming through my senses

and peel them like an onion

until I find

the invisible center.

I crave the balm of change, the liberation of destruction.

These building blocks

so arranged as to form

the pyramid I think of as myself-

 are chipped and cracked

and eager for a rigorous game of Musical Chairs.

Were these foundations set in concrete

or quicksand?

Need I use a wrecking ball

to topple this sorry structure

or is there another way-

gentler, less devastating,

to unveil the central riddle

that is Me?

I don’t know.

But right now, I’m feeling

a strange kinship with dynamite…
