Poems of a Young Man: “For As Long As It Takes” (© KPKeelan)

Feeling motivated-

aware I’ve got to pull it all together

into a center

and use it

to move away from the past-

from this place of

terrifying, nullifying

indulgent ignorance.

Got to gather

my brave spirit

to overcome

this raging defense of stupidity.

Time to package those

precious and useless

accumulated possessions,

and load up the U-haul!

I need to move my life

to somewhere…

like here.

Ripe for renewal!

This sleeping soul

sags in the dreariness of disuse.

Time to trim the fat-

in my mind,

in my closet,

(my excess-

my ego)

and snip the chains that bind me-

to run

unwearied

for as long as it takes.
