Poems of a Young Man: “The Web” (© KPKeelan)

The sweet smell of death

permeates my sinuses

rolls over my palate like warm pie.

It’s tasty.

Drawn into the spider web

lured by the seductive bait

of fresh hope and faith,

I am enveloped.

What caused this hope?

From what unlikely well does this faith spring?

Who spun this web?

Why am I happy here,

where I can’t fly away?
