GUESTBOOK (2012) #62: “Own Your Voice” (by Anne Vance & Kevin Keelan)

When no one’s there to listen,

when no one’s there to hear-

and the succubus wind

swallows your cries like turpentine

while the rain comes down like tears…

 keep your matches dry,

hide some strength away,

make an umbrella of your hopes

to keep the rot of faithlessness at bay.

and try to hang on one more day.

We’re all alone in this world,

incased in our own skin

a membrane of illusion

that fools us into forgetting

there are vital organs we share…

Bonds that connect us

transcending flesh and time

that keep each tethered to the other

one people, one father, mother

sister or brother…

So, cry out again and again!

Own your voice.

You can break through the skin of silence

if you are human enough

to care.
